Did you know? Haunted houses were originally called haunted castles and were popularized by the 18th-century British author Horace Walpole, who wrote a novel titled The Castle of Otranto. The term haunted house eventually replaced haunted castle, but its still possible to find references to haunted castles in modern literature.

Creative Coloring Ideas:
• Spooky Night Sky: Use dark blue and purple crayons or markers to color the sky, adding some stars in silver glitter. Draw a bright orange crescent moon using yellow and red for an eerie glow.
• Haunted House Exterior: Paint the house walls gray and roof dark brown. Add black windows and a door. Use red for the chimney and add some black bats flying around it.
• Glowing Eyes: Choose two colors from your color palette that contrast each other, such as blue and yellow or green and orange. Color in the eyes of the jack-o-lanterns using these contrasting colors to create an eerie glow effect.
• Moonlit Pathway: Select a light gray for the pathway leading up to the house, with darker gray stones for texture. Draw some white flowers on either side of the path, adding color to the scene and creating contrast with the dark background.
